Travel disruption this weekend (24 – 26 October 2025)


This weekend, work begins to remove the old cargo cranes at the entrance to Salford Quays from Trafford Road. The Quays road will be closed from the junction with Waterfront Quay and Capital Quay to the junction at Furness Quay from 8pm on Friday, 24 October to 6am on Monday, 27 October. All Metrolink services in the immediate area are also affected.

As such, it is very important that you allow additional time for your journey to The Quays.

Planning to travel by car?


An alternative route to The Lowry by car would be to take the Broadway turning from Trafford Road and follow it round to The Quays road (passing the Harbour City Metrolink stop). Accessing The Lowry via the crossing at Huron Basin.

Planning to travel by Metrolink?


A replacement bus service will operate on the Eccles to Deansgate-Castlefield via MediaCityUK line. Replacement buses do not call at Pomona. Passengers for Pomona should use replacement bus stops at Exchange Quay. Please buy your ticket from a Metrolink ticket machine before boarding the replacement bus.

Local bus services to Salford Quays will follow authorised diversions put in place by Transport for Greater Manchester.
