Supported by The Heritage Lottery Fund, this project brings together local communities, artists, performers, writers and historians. Working closely with leading artists, groups in Salford helped to create a permanent sculpture trail around The Quays, revealing the hidden history of the area from industrial hub to one of the country's most prestigious waterside developments.
Little evidence reamins of the once thriving Docks, or the people who lived, worked or played here. Through research in the Docks, the Unlocking Salford Quays team uncovered a variety of documents, maps and photographs and conducted interviews with former workers and residents. The material gathered and the stories shared informed the ideas behind the trail artworks and a series of exciting public events.
