Sunday 20 May 2018 to Sunday 7 October 2018
This year, Salford Museum & Art Gallery, Ordsall Hall and The Lowry (link is external) are bringing The Royal Academy to Salford to celebrate the institution?s 250th anniversary, made possible with Art Fund support. Museums and galleries across the UK will take part in a nationwide programme of talks, events and exhibitions entitled RA250.
Founded in 1768, The Royal Academy of Arts (link is external) exists to promote art and artists. Led by world leading practicing artists and architects, they do this through exhibitions including their annual summer show, education and debate. Royal Academicians are voted in by their peers and make up some of the greatest names in painting, printmaking, sculpture and architecture.
Did you know that we hold many magnificent works by Royal Academicians in Salford's collections? Some of which have not been on public display for a number of years.
'The Royal Academy Takeover: The Exhibition' will pick out the hidden gems from the collections and runs over both venues. At Ordsall Hall you can see works from our collections that unites landscape and portraiture through paintings and prints. You can see works by RA's such as William Strang, Arnold Mason and Sheila Fell.
Please note the Royal Academy Takeover exhibition at Salford Museum & Art Gallery will be on display from Saturday 30 June 2018 to Sunday 24 February 2019. Find out more.
